Karen joined IGD in 2002 and became Head of Business and People Development in 2008.

This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including IGD’s Category Management division, personal development programmes such as Leading Edge, a network forum for young managers and IGD’s Post Graduate Certificate in Food and Grocery Industry Management. Karen was previously Head of Consumer and Category Management at IGD.

In terms of training, Karen tutors IGD’s series of Successful Category Management workshops to delegates from across Europe and also tutors on IGD’s Post-Graduate training course. Karen travels extensively delivering training and presentations to companies across the food and grocery industry including most of Europe as well as Australia, South East Asia and USA.

Prior to joining IGD, Karen worked in Category Management and Space Management with a number of retailers and suppliers, covering a wide range of categories. Karen has a BSc (Hons) Business Decision Analysis. More Info on IGD...



Carmel joined IGD in 2008 as a Senior Business Analyst in the Category Management research division.

The output of the team includes reports, conferences, training courses and commissioned briefings. In terms of training, Carmel tutors IGD’s series of Successful Category Management workshops to delegates from across Europe and also tutors on IGD’s Post-Graduate training course. She has recently been involved in the development and delivery of a new course, Data Driven Insight. In terms of helping companies develop best practice, she has recently worked in Estonia helping retailers and manufacturers move forwards with category management, and facilitated in-depth workshops with companies in Finland to understand the in-store environment and develop solutions together.

Prior to joining IGD, Carmel gained 13 years in-depth experience in Channel Marketing, Category Marketing, Account Management and Customer Service management with Cadbury’s and Inbev. At Cadbury’s Carmel was a Channel Marketing Controller managing a channel and category marketing team responsible for a complete customer category approach from developing customer category strategy through to implementation in-store, incorporating range and merchandising recommendations, launching new products and creating in store activity.

During her industry experience Carmel has project managed category strategy teams, including the development of long term business category strategy in conjunction with brand teams and creation of channel standards guidelines for price, promotions, range, merchandising and in-store activity for all retail channels.
