Are we facing a water supply crisis?
Last month saw the opening of a £250 million de-salination plant in Beckton, east London. The new plant, extracting water from the Thames, will supply water for up to one million homes in the London area.
It is needed as the demand for water, due to an increase in the London population and the difficulty of expanding more traditional sources of water - such as reservoirs and bore hole extraction – reaches an all-time high.
